Policy Somersault

As January 18 drew near……. just like many, I felt a rush of confusion, frustration and fright.

Where is the wisdom in asking workers from a certain grade to remain at home, and pushing children to the butchery?

Where are the jingles on the radio and tv stations composed for the kids…. to build their comprehension of the pandemic and boost their memory of the safety measures?

The PTF raises concerns that 20% of tests carried out in the country return positive.

Are the teachers and students completely isolated from this percentage?

Right now, the war on covid-19 depends heavily on non-pharmaceutical interventions. So what happens 2–3 weeks from now when children remain children and get bored of protocols, and snub your restriction on hugging their best friends?

When school workers and teachers become overwhelmed with the pressure of these jobs.

Yes we have tough questions to contest…

Academic value Vs. Lives of the children.

Drop outs Vs. Unhealthy children.

Broke Teachers vs. Sick communities

Mental Health of children Vs. Risk of Infection.

The latter (mental health of the children) was the argument raised by the president of NAPPS.

But I say, what happens to the mental health of the a child when you tell that child that his grandma died because he went to school (and brought covid home)…..?

Just a thought!

Well, if this doesn’t backfire…… Lord You have finally looked down on Nigeria with a miracle.
